Terms of Service

Last updated: September 22, 2026

These Terms are an agreement between you and FATT, a Wyoming corporation ("we," "us"), which operates Stateys. By creating an account or using Stateys, you agree to them.

Stateys is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of California or any other government agency. Future leave balances are estimates and may be affected by payroll adjustments, employer policies, bargaining-unit agreements, eligibility rules, and unplanned absences.

1. Estimates and information only

Stateys provides estimates and informational tools only. It is not legal, financial, tax, benefits, or human resources advice, and using Stateys does not create an attorney-client, fiduciary, or other professional relationship. Stateys does not replace your official leave records, pay warrants and statements, CalPERS records, your department's HR or payroll office, or your bargaining-unit agreement (MOU). The State's official records control over anything shown in Stateys.

2. Leave projections and the Leave Check

Projected leave balances are estimates based on the information you provide and on general accrual rules that may not reflect your specific MOU, side letters, temporary cap extensions, qualifying pay periods, payroll timing, or department practices. When the Leave Check shows a difference between a statement and a projection, it is flagging a possible discrepancy for you to review, not determining that an error occurred or who made it. Always confirm balances and eligibility with your employer before relying on them.

3. Contract changes, side letters and government action

Projections and Check results reflect only the rules built into Stateys and the information you provide at the time. They do not account for side letters, supplemental agreements, amendments, arbitration awards, or other terms that are not reflected in Stateys, or for future bargaining outcomes. They also do not account for any action by the Governor, the Legislature, CalHR, or any other part of State government to reverse, suspend, rescind, delay, or modify existing terms (for example, through budget actions, furloughs, personal leave programs, or suspended pay increases), or any refusal or failure to negotiate new terms. Any such change can make a projection or Check result inaccurate.

4. Paycheck Check and other Checks

The Paycheck Check and any other Check (including Benefits and Retirement Checks) produce estimates only. Salary, overtime, differentials, deductions, furlough or PLP reductions, benefit premiums, retirement contributions and service credit must be confirmed against your official pay warrant, the State Controller's Office, CalHR, CalPERS, or your department's payroll or HR office. A Check result is not a determination that you were overpaid or underpaid, and it is not a claim, grievance, or request for correction.

5. Leave Request Builder

The Leave Request Builder is a drafting tool. It creates text that you may choose to copy and send yourself; Stateys does not submit, track, or process leave requests and is not part of your department's approval process. Using it does not guarantee that your supervisor or department will approve any leave, and Stateys has no connection to, and makes no representation about, approval decisions or approval rates. Approval depends on your department's policies, operational needs, seniority or scheduling rules, your MOU, and your available balances. You are responsible for reviewing the text before sending it and for following your department's leave request procedures and deadlines.

6. Deadlines and your rights

Stateys does not track or notify you of deadlines for disputing pay or leave, filing grievances or appeals, or requesting corrections. Those deadlines can be short. If you believe there is an error, contact your HR or payroll office and, if you are represented, your union promptly.

7. Errors by the State, by you, or by software

You understand and accept that errors can come from several sources, and that you assume the risk of relying on Stateys without independent confirmation:

  • State records (including leave statements, pay warrants, and published rules) may contain errors or be updated after you use them.
  • Information you enter or import may be incomplete, outdated, or mistyped, and Stateys' results depend on it. You are responsible for the accuracy of your information.
  • Document import reads statements automatically and may misread or miss information, especially if a statement's format changes. Review imported figures before saving them.
  • Rules and tables built into Stateys may be incomplete, may not apply to your position, or may become outdated when contracts, laws, or policies change.
  • AI features, including Ask Statey, can produce answers that sound confident but are incomplete or wrong. AI responses are not advice and must be verified against official sources.

8. Links to official sites

The Resources page links to official State and union websites for convenience. Stateys does not control those sites and is not responsible for their content, availability, or changes.

9. Your account

Keep your password secure and don't share your account. Don't enter Social Security numbers, employee identification numbers, or bank information; Stateys does not need them.

10. Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. You can cancel anytime from Manage billing on the Account page. If your subscription ends, information you saved while subscribed is retained and becomes available again if you resubscribe, unless you delete your account.

11. No warranty; limitation of liability

Stateys is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, FATT and its shareholders, directors, officers and employees are not liable for any lost pay, lost or forfeited leave, denied leave requests, missed deadlines, or other indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or reliance on, the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for Stateys in the twelve months before the claim.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to Stateys will be resolved exclusively in the state courts located in San Luis Obispo County, California, or the federal courts for the district that includes San Luis Obispo County, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Stateys changes. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and notify account holders by email or in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Stateys after that means you accept the updated Terms. If Stateys is transferred to another business entity, that entity may assume these Terms.

14. Plan discussions

This section applies when you post a comment. Comments are public, and you're responsible for what you post. Share your own experience; don't post personal details about yourself or anyone else, harassment, advertising, or anything unlawful. You keep ownership of your comments and give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display them on Stateys. We may hide or remove comments and turn off posting for an account at our discretion, but we don't review every comment before it appears and aren't responsible for what users post. Comments are users' opinions, not statements by Stateys, CalPERS or CalHR, and aren't medical, legal or financial advice. Confirm plan details with the plan and CalPERS. You can delete your own comments at any time.

15. Grievance library

This section applies when you share a grievance. Shared grievances are public, and you're responsible for what you share. Share only a grievance you filed or have the right to share, and remove names, signatures, employee and position numbers, contact details and other identifying information about yourself or anyone else before sharing; Stateys' automatic checks don't catch everything. Don't share abusive, obscene, harassing or unlawful content. You keep ownership of what you share and give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on Stateys until you delete it. Posts appear without prior review; other users can report them, reported posts may be hidden automatically, and we may hide or remove any post and turn off sharing for an account at our discretion. Shared grievances, sample letters and the grievance guide are general information, not legal advice, and aren't statements by the State, CalHR, the State Personnel Board or any union. Deadlines and rules depend on your contract and situation. You can delete your posts at any time.
